Parts & Service:  Video inspection scope

According to OTC, remote inspections of hard-to-see areas can now be accomplished with its new 3880 video inspection scope. The system features a distal video camera at the end of a water-resistant Staylock shaft and provides visual internal inspection of engines without the need to disassemble.

“This handy tool gives you the edge on troubleshooting, problem solving and plain old guesswork,” said Andy Forsberg, product manager of electronics for parent company SPX Service Solutions. Just 10 mm in diameter, the scope is said to be ideal for inspecting belts, locating bad sensors and electrical connectors, or looking inside engine cylinders through the spark plug hole. The shaft is 36-in. long and the product includes a 2.5-in. high-resolution color LCD. Autofocus allows images to be viewed clearly from as close as ¼ in., and a clip-on mirror attachment offers 90 deg. to axis viewing of the shaft. The scope provides four hours of operating time on four AA batteries.
